Posted in Essential softwares, Software with tags , , on June 3, 2010 by Temitope.A

YouTube DownloaderAlthough media is going more and more on streaming nowadays, there can still be need to take something down to your computer. YouTube and YouTube Downloader are a perfect example for this. With this small but powerful SW you can easily download your favourites videos from youtube and immediately make some basic conversions to suit your media player any of your devices, be it a cellular, an iphone, an ipod, or a playstation portable.

The great thing in it is that, notwithstanding it’s called youtube downloader, it supports a lot of sites, like vevo, vimeo and may others.

P.S

A simple way to download a video ONLY from YouTube is to add kiss to the Yt link after the two “//” like shown below

PDF, my darling PDF

Posted in Essential softwares, Software with tags , , on June 3, 2010 by Alex

In my opinion the most useful file-format in the whole computers world is the PDF. I simply love PDFs. First of all they’re very “flexible”. You’ll never have problem in opening this kind of files and you can do it fast. On the second hand it’s an universal format, all the operating systems (es. Linux, Windows, Mac) can open it. The third main point is that PDFs can’t be easily made unmodifiable. This feature becomes very useful when it’s needed to send an important document by mail or when you simply need some reassurances on file’s integrity.

For this and other reasons i’d like to suggest you this program: PDF Creator. It transforms your pictures or test-files in PDF format ones. It’s light, simple to use and very very fast during operations. It works like a virtual printer but, instead printing on paper, it creates PDFs.

Please not this 2 things:

  1. This program needs one of these Windows operative systems to be installed: Win95/98/98SE/Me/2000/NT/XP/2003/7 (on Windows 7 it doesn’t seem to work as good as on the other ones).
  2. Its toolbar is installed without request and it automatically changes some browser features. After the installation you should delete this application using directly the control panel not to have further problems.

This program supports PDF, JPG, TIFF, BMP, PCX, PS and EPS formats.

I hope it’ll be useful.

VLC “It plays everything!”

The media player that fills all your needs. It can handle DVDs, (S)VCDs, Audio CDs, web streams, TV cards and much more.

You don’t need to keep track of a dozen codec packs you need to have installed. VLC has all codecs built-in. It comes with support for nearly all codec there is. VLC really plays everything (have a look here, the developers have concentrated on the video, living the interface very essential and easy to use. You won’t be distracted by anything while watching your videos or playing your music. With VLC it’s also easy to add subtitles to any video. And what is more it can even play back the file or media if it is damaged! Missing or broken pieces are  no stop to VLC, it plays all the video and audio information that’s still intact.

VLC can be installed in any Operating System.

Essentials – part 1 Softwares

Posted in Lists, Open source, Resources, Software with tags , , , on June 3, 2010 by Temitope.A

When i first unpacked my PC and start it, the rapidity, the neatness of the desktop and of the folders gave me a sensation of armony I can only remember after sometimes, since I’m really and virtually very untidy. Every time I’m in  need of a program, I download  five or six softwares, install some of them (in the same moment) try them and then forget to uninstall and delete what I do not need. It results in an unique mess!!!

So what about it there were a list of essential SWs like the ONE Tom

‘s hardware did? We’re now going to analyze, in the next post, some important softwares, this post will be edited and will become an index. We’ll prefer open-source and free SWs, though we’ll still insert some proprietary and costly ones, when the have some properties unfindable in free SWs.

Stumble!!

Posted in Internet surfing with tags , on June 2, 2010 by Alex

Today I’d like to make you know a very funny tool for your internet browser: StumbleUpon. If you start using it you won’t be able to stop. Its task is finding the most curious and interesting links and web-pages that the biggest part of surfers usually can’t find. It plumbs the depths of the whole Net so you’ll never finish your supply of curiosities. The range of curiosities spaces out from pictures to games, from music to books, from blogs to singular inventions. There’s really everything.

The only thing to do is filling in the proper list to mark your interests. Then you can start stumbling!

Another particular feature of this tool is the interaction with the users. Every time you visualize a page there’s the possibility to give it a good or a bad mark. More positive considerations are received from the link more it’ll be proposed to stumblers.

Here is the link:         www.stumbleupon.com/to/stumble/go

Only one specification: to make it easier for you to start stumbling there is a browser plug-in, that works better on Firefox today.

Enjoy.

Each post should finish with…

Black Beauty

The theme of a site is one of the most important thing to care about while creating a site, after the content od course. And considering how much time we netsurfers pass in front of our screens there’s no surprise if we suffer from eye-strain or develop CVS. These are problems I’ll turn speaking on later, but that’s why I immediately choosed a black background for this site. Your eyes will receive less less light and this will result in less fatigue for you.

In addition it seems your PC too will use less energy, though this is still a point of debate.

P.S

There some softwares that will help you organize the time you spend at your PC so that you can relax your eyes and prevent splitting head-aches.

You can find them here
